DECISION STYLE THEORY A.J. Rowe , J.D, Bouldgarides

There is many decision models and styles. Every person has a different way to contemplate a decision. Authors offer a perception-driven theory of decision-making style. There is no good or bad style of deciding, they are just different. Each of the described styles has both strengths and weaknesses. Our way of perceiving and understanding stimuli, on their view, our constructions of the significance of events. This largely determines how we will respond in decision-making situations.

The four styles of decision making are directive, analytical, conceptual and behavioral. Each style is a different method of weighing alternatives and examining solutions.

Directive - characterized by logical, very dynamic decision-making. Imperial people like to dominate. They prefer to make their own decisions, trust their own intuition. They rely on facts and transparent information. They focus on the near future. They show low tolerances for ambiguity, they are task oriented.

Analytical - needs full information, long and careful consideration of many opportunities. It takes a long time to consider the options and to carefully analyze the information. Their way of thinking is based on meticulous gathering of information and data. They examine each aspect of the problem in great detail and analyze it again. They offer a very comprehensive, accurate, well thought out and supported by detailed knowledge of the solution. They are focused on tasks and show high tolerance for ambiguity, they are task oriented.

Conceptual – is a person with broad horizons, who is looking for many variants and options. He/she is open for new solutions. It is creative and inventive. He/she can analyze many variants; he/she uses many different sources. He/she is able to evaluate and analyze, with different perspectives. Has a high tolerance of ambiguity, is human-oriented. He/she is characterized by creative thinking in the distant perspective.

Behavioural – is a person who makes dynamic decisions, only in complex situations. He/she is focused on the social aspects of work; the greatest value for his/her is the good and the feelings of other members of the team. They are open to suggestions and ideas of others. They like to discuss and conduct constructive dialogue. They are able to cooperate effectively. They show low tolerance for ambiguity, they are human oriented.

Perfect decision-making team management ?

According to world-renowned PAEI founder, Dr. Ichak Adizes (Founder of the Aditas World Wide Institute), the essential role of the executive team can be defined by four functions. It is important for the organization to develop these 4 roles; this is a guarantee of success in the short and long term. Below I present the translation of PAEI's methodology into decision-making styles according to theory A.J. Rowe, J.D, Bouldgarides.
